You can choose to attend either one of the days, or both days. Here's what you can look forward to:

    • Empower youth voices as catalysts for change, showcasing impactful examples of meaningful youth engagement.

    • Share and cross-pollinate ideas across schools, communities, regions, and government to uplift student success.

    • Co-create actionable strategies that align with our shared goal of enabling children and youth to thrive.

  • Day 1 centers youth voice, shares and celebrates the impacts of Health Promoting Schools initiatives, and builds collaboration between students and adults. An engaging, collaborative, two-day provincial gathering to uplift, celebrate, and build momentum to enhance healthy school communities in Nova Scotia. Join us to:

    • Celebrate and highlight promising practices across education, health, and community to enhance student health, learning and wellbeing;

    • Centre youth as agents of change and showcase examples of meaningful youth engagement in Nova Scotia schools;

    • Cross-pollinate ideas across schools, communities, regions, and government to uplift student success, for all students;

    • Explore aligned actions to enable children and youth to thrive.

    9:00 - 9:30 am Registration and Networking

    9:30 am - 12:15 pm Morning Session

    • Welcome, Mi’kmaw Opening, Framing, and Introductions

    • Sharing Youth and Student Success Stories in Health Promoting Schools 

    • Small Group Discussion: What does youth engagement in Health Promoting Schools look and feel like in Nova Scotia? How can we build on what’s working well? Nova Scotia is winning an award in 2028 for our work in Health Promoting Schools. What is the award for? What does the work in Nova Scotia look and feel like, for both youth and supportive adults?

    12:15 - 1:00 pm Lunch

    1:00 - 4:00 pm Afternoon Session

    • School lunch programs activity

    • Reflection on themes & planning for action for the future of Health Promoting Schools

  • Day 2 focuses on relationship building and collaboration while providing an opportunity for profiling best/promising practices to support positive student learning and health outcomes. The day will include 6 engaging concurrent sessions that will detail promising practices and recent evidence related to various topics which may include: youth substance use, local and school community voices, inclusive school environments, active school communities, and healthy relationships. Join us to:

    • Create opportunities for relationship building and connection among school, community, government, regional, and board partners.

    • Increase awareness of the various social, physical, environmental, and individual factors influencing the health, learning and overall well-being of students. 

    • Profile best/promising practices, successful strategies, and recent evidence to support positive student learning and health outcomes. 

    • Share local success stories and practical ideas demonstrating how partners are improving student health and learning in schools.

    • Concurrent Breakout Sessions focused on Youth Substance Use, Youth Friendly Spaces, Inclusive Schools, and Active School Communities (topics subject to change).

    Additionally, we encourage you to check out the many other local accommodations options, including The Old Orchard Inn, several local Bed and Breakfasts, and other private accommodations options.

    1. What is the cost to register? There is no cost to register. Snacks and lunch are provided. Participants are responsible for their own accommodation.

    2. Do I have to attend both days? No, you are able to register for either or both days.

    3. Is there a dress code for the event? Nope, there's no official dress code! We just suggest dressing comfortably and rocking those comfy shoes.

    4. What kind of environment can I expect during the summit? Get ready for an awesome vibe! We're all about creating a youth-friendly space where fun meets learning. Expect an engaging experience filled with opportunities to connect with inspiring youth leaders and fellow adult supporters. It's all about shared learning, listening, and collaborating!

    5. As an adult attending, how can I prepare to be in a youth-friendly event? Get ready to embrace the youth spirit! Bring an open mind and a willingness to engage with young leaders. Be ready to listen, learn, and participate in activities designed to foster collaboration and connection across generations.

    6. How do we centre youth voices? Practice pausing, noticing, listening more than or as much as you are talking, and anticipate a different kind of experience. Prepare to notice resistance in yourself; trust what we’re doing is intentional and it’s worth it for the authentic, trusting, fruitful partnerships with young people.

    7. What is UpLift? UpLift supports school-aged children and youth by fostering healthy, vibrant, caring, and connected school communities through a Health Promoting Schools approach. Led by an Advisory Committee, it prioritizes evidence-based strategies and ongoing evaluation for success and sustainability.
